Here is a quick Guide how to use Automatic Export with Thunderbird Lightning 3.1.1 an higher

to use automatic export for Thunderbird Lightning 3.1.1 and higher:

• just extract the xpi (maybe  you have to rename the file to .zip)
• edit the install.rdf
• jump to the line <RDF:Description RDF:ID=”$ya2ij”
• three line down you will find a attribute em:maxVersion
• rise the Version too your Thunderbird Version
• a example of the element could be
  <RDF:Description RDF:ID=”$ya2ij”
  em:id=”{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}”
  em:minVersion=”1.5″
  em:maxVersion=”3.1.2″ />
